Despite receiving an exemption to shoot, Babygirl may not enter production until the actors’ strike is over.  It’s not stopped casting rumours.

It’s been six months or so since we heard that Halina Reijn’s follow up to Bodies Bodies Bodies, the sharp Gen Z slasher satire would be Babygirl, an erotic thriller for A24. Of course, two major Hollywood strikes have upended things, even if A24 had been able to continue operating under a series of interim agreements that allow the independent studio to push ahead with its projects.

Yet even though the production received an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, it appears that the film may not go before cameras until the actors’ strike is over, according to The CinemaholicThe film is said to be ‘an erotic thriller about a career woman in her 40s who ends up having an affair with a 21-year-old intern.’

More casting rumours have surfaced for the project though, with the outlet reporting that Jude Law and Triangle Of Sadness’ Harris Dickinson are rumoured to be in talks to play the protagonist’s husband and lover respectively. Nicole Kidman had also been linked.

Production is set to take place in New York, although we await a start date for the movie.

If you haven’t had the pleasure, last year’s Bodies Bodies Bodies was a pretty sharp satire that didn’t forsake its identity as a slasher. As such, we’re keen to see what Reijn might do when working with the wonderful talents of Nicole Kidman at her disposal, not to mention Jude Law and Harris Dickinson, should those rumours prove to be true.

We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it. Earliest we could expect a release date, should strikes clear up, would be the end of next year. That might be pushing things a little, though.
