Michael Mann stops playing coy and even gives a response to the exciting casting rumours that have been swirling around regarding Heat 2.

Back in August, Michael Mann set out to do the press rounds for Ferrari, his latest film (that arrives in UK cinemas at the end of this year). Naturally, talk of a sequel to Heat, his 1995 heist thriller came up and the filmmaker kind of shut it down, arguing that “I want to make it. But if I don’t, I won’t be incomplete.”

Numerous interviews later and Mann’s veneer of insouciant cool has finally been breached during a Q&A in London where he confirmed that Heat 2 would definitely be his next film, stating: “Yes. Meg Gardiner and myself wrote the novel Heat 2, which came out right when we were shooting Ferrari. It did very well. I plan to shoot that next.”

What’s more, the filmmaker even spoke about the rumours that Ferrari star Adam Driver would star in the project, although he stopped short of offering a full confirmation. “Perhaps,” said Mann. ‘We don’t talk about that yet. Let me put it this way: Adam and I got along like a house on fire [on Ferrari]. We have the same work ethic – which is pretty intense. We like each other, and we had a great time working together artistically.”

Well, it isn’t a no, is it?

So there you go. At this rate, by the time Mann completes his press tour for Ferrari he’ll be revealing third act secrets whilst making live casting announcements every time he’s in front of a mic (that’s if the actors’ strike ends anytime soon). We’ll bring you more news on Heat 2 which serves as both prequel and sequel to the 1995 original, as we hear it. The novel is on sale now.
