Midlands independent film Bad Things is heading to the big screen this weekend ā€“ and it sounds like itā€™s been quite the venture.

Congratulations to the primarily young team behind the new feature Bad Things, which is set to debut at this week’s Worcester Film Festival.

We’ve just been reading about the movie, which has been written and directed by Anthony Thornton-Hopwood. He’s assembled a production that’s given paid work experience to a cast and crew that’s said to be 80% aged between 16 and 24. There’s a lovely write-up about it all at the Worcester News website – hurray for local newspapers and journalism – and you can read that here.

The article there talks about the opportunities being offered for grassroots talent, and it’s music to our ears.

It sounds like it’s been quite the journey for the production, which was shooting towards the end of 2021. Now? It’s set for its premiere.

The movie is playing in Worcester at the Odeon this Friday, 27th September. The screening has already sold out, but hopefully there will be more chances to catch Bad Things on the big screen in due course.

For now, the synopsis for the movie reads as follows…

A group of stranded teenagers must learn to trust each other in order to discover the enemy that hides within.

An Ai Nano-Tech virus becomes sentient, escapes the lab and starts killing anyone over the age of twenty one. A reset button for Mother Earth and the ultimate weapon.

A group of teenagers on a Duke Of Edinburgh Award Expedition become infected. The virus hides inside them, turning the young into biological machines determined to rid the world of old people.

Who is infected? Who is the killer among them? Meanwhile, a shadowy corporation hunts the group in order to control the outbreak.

The gang must discover the meaning of being human to save the world and be back home in time for tea.

And you can find the sold out listing for it on the Worcester Film Festival webpage, here.
