Steven Soderbergh directs a supernatural thriller with a unique perspective twist. Hereās the first trailer for Presence, starring Lucy Liu and Julia Fox:
Director Steven Soderbergh has been on a roll recently, having released at least one film a year since 2017 and sometimes two. These have included Logan Lucky, Unsane, High Flying Bird, The Laundromat, Let Them All Talk, No Sudden Move, Kimi and Magic Mikeās Last Dance.
His latest film, Presence, has a unique twist to it: the storyās shot from the perspective of a supernatural entity that stalks an ordinary suburban family. After debuting at Sundance early this year, the movie was picked up for distribution by Neon ā the company that recently enjoyed a huge hit with serial killer horror, Longlegs.
According to Deadline, The synopsis reads as follows:
A family moves into a suburban house and becomes convinced they’re not alone, but rather surrounded by a mysterious entity. It’s there before the family even moves in. It witnesses the family’s most intimate and uncomfortable moments. It navigates the family’s new house at supernatural speed. It pays unusual attention to Chloe (Callina Liang), the teenage girl who’s neither her mother’s nor her brother’s favorite. It wants — no, it needs — something. And as time goes on, the presence pieces together how it might accomplish its goal.
The cast also includes Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday and West Mulholland.

Soderbergh directed the film, and both he and screenwriter David Koepp are building up quite a filmography together. They made Kimi in 2022 and they are currently working on the spy thriller Black Bag, starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender. Koepp is also working on an adaptation of his 2019 novel Cold Storage, a thriller about a fungus hidden in a Government facility. It will star Liam Neeson, Joe Keery, Georgina Campbell, Sosie Bacon, Lesley Manville and Vanessa Redgrave.
David Koepp is among the most successful screenwriters of all time; his films have grossed over $2 billion at the box office. Not surprising when you look at some of he things heās written ā Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Panic Room, Spider-Man and Indiana Jones And Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, among many others.
Presence will be released on the 17th January 2025. Until then, hereās that trailer:
