A 13 part adaptation of Spike Milligan’s Badjelly The Witch is on the way, it’s been confirmed. More details here:

Spike Milligan will forever be beloved for his immeasurable contribution to post-war British comedy, from the lunacy of The Goons to the surreal silliness of his series and beyond.

Milligan was also a prolific author – Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall is well worth a read if you’ve never had the pleasure – and among his publications is a children’s story called Badjelly The Witch.

Originally published 50 years ago, It follows two children, Tim and Rose, who search for their lost cow but end up being captured by “the wickedest witch in all the world”.

The book was previously adapted into a delightful hand drawn animated special in 2000, which was intercut with live action narration from Milligan himself.

Variety reports that the new series, titled Badjelly, will consist of thirteen animated episodes and Miriam Margoyles will voice the titular character.

Production is currently underway in New Zealand, but the show is yet to be picked up for UK distribution. We’ll bring you more on the series’ progress as we get it.
