According to reports, John Wick spin-off film Ballerina has been given a delay from June of this year all the way into June, 2025.

Ballerina is set to be the latest action-packed instalment in the John Wick franchise, following the hugely popular four mainline movies that star Keanu Reeves as the fearsome hitman. As it stands though, Ballerina reportedly isn’t action-packed enough and has been delayed for a year so that further shooting can take place to insert more fisticuffs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources at Lionsgate have confirmed that additional photography will be taking place to bolster the film’s action sequences. Interestingly, the report also states that the director of the John Wick films, Chad Stahelski, will be on set to supervise the shooting of these additional sequences alongside Len Wiseman, Ballerina's original director.

The core idea behind Ballerina stems from scenes that occur in John Wick 3 in which we get a little glimpse into Wick’s early years and the punishing training he endured to become a legendary killer.

Ana de Armas stars as the titular Ballerina, and the supporting cast looks really fun: Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus also feature while John Wick returnees include Angelica Huston, Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves and the late Lance Reddick will also be present. Oh, and the script has been written by Emerald Fennell, the scribe behind Saltburn, one of the most fun and buzzy films of 2023.

With all that talent on board, we’re hoping that this project more than lives up to the John Wick name, and if the creators feel they need more time in front of cameras to fully deliver, power to them. We can wait.

Lionsgate has announced that it will instead release its reboot of The Crow on the 7th June of this year, so there’s a little something to soften the blow. It seems like we’ve been waiting for aeons for that movie to arrive.

Lionsgate also scheduled a new Guy Ritchie film for 17th January 2025. That project stars Henry Cavill and Eiza González, the same leading duo who are part of the ensemble in Ritchie’s upcoming film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare which is slated to arrive in April of this year.

More on all of these as we hear it.
