The cast of Gladiator 2 is coming together, but a late replacement is required, as Barry Keoghan exits the film.

For a film stuck in development hell for so many years, Gladiator 2 is now coming together remarkably quickly. Once Ridley Scott decides for definite he’s going to direct something, he tends not to hang around.

We know that Paul Mescal will lead the film, and he was set to be joined by Banshees Of Inisherin star Barry Keoghan, but news has now broken that Keoghan has exited the film due to a scheduling conflict. He was due to play Emperor Geta, and Fred Hechinger is now lined up to replace him.

Other newly announced cast members include May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas and Derek Jacobi, who reprises his role as Gracchus. They join the already announced Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen, the latter of whom is reprising her role as Lucilla.

Ridley Scott is back behind the camera, working from a script by David Scarpa.
