Barry Keoghan will line up opposite Paul Mescal in Ridley Scott’s return to the world of Gladiator.

It’s been a couple of months since we heard that Paramount and Ridley Scott had pushed back the production of Gladiator 2 into the summer of this year. The project is probably aiming for a summer 2025 release but as that summer production date draws closer, we expected to hear some more casting details and now we have some.

Giant Freakin Robot is reporting that The Banshees Of Inisherin Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan is in talks to play Emperor Geta in the film, meaning he’ll be lining up against fellow 2023 Oscar nominee, Paul Mescal. Keoghan is one of cinema’s strongest young talents and paired with Mescal, means that Gladiator 2 will have a quality acting pairing at its core. As you’d expect.

Keoghan is enjoying a streak of interesting projects at the moment. The Banshees Of Inisherin was universally acclaimed whilst he is currently shooting Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn opposite Jacob Elordi and is next tackling Trey Edward Shults’ latest movie, which also stars Jenna Ortega.

Mescal is enjoying a good run too, following his acclaimed turn in Aftersun and subsequent casting in the lead role of Gladiator 2. We’re very much looking forward to an onscreen meeting between the pair and will bring you more Gladiator 2 updates as we hear them.
