The Batman Ninja anime series continues with Batman Ninja Vs Yakuza League – and here’s the first trailer for it.
It’s a truth universally agreed that Batman rocks. Likewise, ninjas. Therefore, 2018’s Batman Ninja was a perfect hybrid of two of pop culture’s finest creations. (Yes history buffs, we know that ninjas – or ‘shinobi’ to be exact – are rooted in history but the anime played heavily into the more fictitious elements of the ninja legend.) The Dark Knight has always been partly rooted in ninja lore, something Christopher Nolan in particular leaned into heavily in his film trilogy’s depiction of the League of Shadows.
However, 2018’s Batman Ninja fully dived into the connection between the two, with the Warner Bros Japan anime reimagining the Batman mythos as taking place in Feudal-era Japan. The film released theatrically in Japan and went to digital release in the United States and the UK. It received middling reviews but has apparently done well enough somewhere to warrant a sequel which will be arriving at an unspecified point in the future, as no release date has yet been announced.
However, we do have a teaser trailer to enjoy though, along with a synopsis. Junpei Mizusaki is returning from the first film to direct the sequel alongside Shinji Takagi and the film will ‘see Batman and Robin taking on alternate versions of some of his greatest allies – Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. All sport new looks to match the feudal Japan period.’
Given that details are light at the moment, there’s no word as to whether the film will get a theatrical release here in the UK but if we had to guess, we’d say that a digital release is the most likely outcome. We’ll bring you more on this one, including the film’s release date as we hear it. Here’s that trailer below.
