Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is heading to the big screen, and here are the first details of the upcoming film.

It’s been a good year again for stage to screen adaptations, with Tim Minchin’s Matilda: The Musical currently riding high at the box office.

Even as that film soars, another musical is starting its journey to the big screen, in the form of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. The show was nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning for Best Leading Actress and Best Sound Design. The stage show is a rags to riches story which follows Carole King’s rise to fame.

Daisy Edgar-Jones will play King, following on from her performance in the movie Where The Crawdads Sing. Lisa Cholodenko will direct and co-write the screenplay with Stuart Blumberg, based on the musical book by Douglas McGrath.

Cholodenko will also co-produce alongside Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, with Paul Blake, who produced the stage musical.

Beautiful will begin production soon,  and we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
