Charlie Brookerās Black Mirror is back for season 7 and the cast ā Paul Giamatti! Rashida Jones! ā has been confirmed.
As weāre not far off time of year where we rewatch our festive favourites, special mention has to go to White Christmas., the Black Mirror episode which must surely be a contender for the most upsetting Christmas special in history, featuring as it does the concept of blocking people in real life and a final scene with a concept too horrifying to imagine.
Beginning as a drama on Channel 4 in 2010 before moving to Netflix from series 3 in 2016, so far six series worth of twisted tales have come from the unrelentingly dark imagination of Charlie Brooker. From AI to memory chips, futuristic societies to an interactive special, Brookerās pen has thus far always been prescient, predicting many developments in technology that have actually come true.
The seventh season is now in production for Netflix. According to Deadline, another star studded cast has been lined up to feature in the series.
The cast includes: Awkwafina, Milanka Brooks, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, Paul Giamatti, Lewis Gribben, Osy Ikhile, Rashida Jones, Siena Kelly, Billy Magnussen, Rosy McEwen, Cristin Milioti, Chris O’Dowd, Issa Rae, Paul G. Raymond, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jimmi Simpson and Harriet Walter.

The series will consist of six episodes. The only one we know about so far will be a sequel to USS Callister, the first episode of series 4. Milioti, Simpson, Jesse Plemons and Michaela Coel starred in the episode. Written by Brooker and directed by Toby Haynes, the episode āfollowed Daly (Plemons), a reclusive but gifted programmer and co-founder of a popular massively multiplayer online game who is bitter over the lack of recognition of his position from his coworkers. Daly takes out his frustrations by simulating a Star Trek-like space adventure within the game, using his co-workers’ DNA to create sentient digital clones of them, with terrifying consequencesā.
At an event in March, Netflix released the following description of the episode:
USS Callister will return… Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.
