The French media powerhouse Mediawan has bought a majority stake in one of Hollywood’s most prestigious production companies.

Back in October it was revealed that the production company Plan B was going up for sale. Founded by Brad Pitt, Plan B is one of Hollywood’s most celebrated production companies having produced a string of films that often manage to be commercially successful whilst platforming a wide range of creators and stories from many backgrounds. It has now been revealed that the sale process is complete with French media powerhouse Mediawan taking a majority stake in the company.

Screen Daily is reporting that Mediawan has closed the deal as the company seeks to expand its reach into the American market. Mediawan already owns several successful French production companies, including Chapter 2. Chapter 2 is producing the upcoming big-budget The Three Musketeers movie, which will release in two parts, the first of which is set for 2023.

Mediawan also has a stake in UK production, having formed a joint venture alongside Leonine Studios to acquire a 51% stake in the UK’s Drama Republic, producers of The English, not to mention inking a production deal with Oscar-winning filmmaker Florian Zeller.

We’ll be watching keenly to see how this acquisition might play out in the future for Plan B, but we’re hoping that it will continue to mean business as usual for the production company. Maybe it will even speed up the process of getting Michael Keaton back into the stripey suit in a Beetlejuice return….
