John Wick director Chad Stahelski will oversee a remake of the Indian action film Kill, which arrives in the UK this week.
Chad Stahelski is a busy guy. Despite boasting one of the longest production slates in Hollywood, heās also recently jumped in to oversee reshoots for Ballerina, the delayed John Wick spin-off film. Plus, last we heard, he was in Scotland location scouting as pre-production ramps up on his Highlander remake which is set to shoot early next year.
Chad Stahelskiās to-do list just got a little bit longer with the announcement that he and his 87Eleven Entertainment label will be producing an English-language remake of Kill, an Indian action movie that is releasing here in the UK on Friday.
Nikhil Nagesh Bhat has directed the feature which marks one of the first times a mainstream Hindi-language film has partnered with a Hollywood studio for release in both North America and the UK.
That partnership with Lionsgate will be going even further though, as the US studio will be remaking the film in the English language. Chad Stahelski has an ongoing production deal with Lionsgate, primarily to oversee all areas of the John Wick franchise but given the sustained success that those films have generated, the studio is keen to use his services as often as possible. Lionsgate are backing Stahelskiās Highlander remake and now it seems, placing him as an active producer on this project.
Hereās the synopsis for Kill:
The story follows army commando Amrit who finds out his lover Tulika is engaged against her will. He boards a New Delhi-bound train to derail the arranged marriage and reunite with her. Things take a turn when a gang of knife-wielding thieves begin to terrorise innocent passengers on the trail, Amrit must take them on himself and save those around him.
Stahelski had this to say about the Hindi-language original, which you might just find at a cinema near you this week (itās playing at this writerās local multiplex). “‘Kill’ is one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently. Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It’s exciting to be developing an English-language version — we have big shoes to fill and I’m looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that.”
Thereās no confirmation that Nikhil Nagesh Bhat will be directing the remake although as per Stahelskiās statement, he and the team behind Kill will be involved in the remake. Weāve added a trailer or the film below. Weāll bring you more on Kill as we hear it.
