Three more titles join the UK arm of the Criterion Collection on Blu-ray this February ā and theyāre led by 2020ās Dirk Johnson Is Dead.
Premium Blu-ray labels don’t shut up shop just for the festive season, and the Criterion Collection is no exception. It’s already announced its three titles for January 2022, and it’s now wasted little time in confirming what’s following in February.
It’s another three new titles coming our way, and they’re each arriving on February 21
st 2022.
What’s in store? Glad you asked.
First up is a contemporary film, 2020’s US indie
Dirk Johnson Is Dead. Directed by Kirsten Johnson, the new package comes with a fresh 2K master of the movie, a new audio commentary, a fresh interview, a conversation with Johnson and her producers, the trailer, and a look at what a documentary can be. You
can find the film here.
Then we zip back to 1956 for Hollywood favourite
Whistle Down The Wind, from director Douglas Sirk. Lauren Bacall, Robert Stack, Rock Hudson and Dorothy Malone feature. On the extras front, there’s a documentary entitled
Acting For Douglas Sirk, a new interview about the film, and an essay too.
Finally, the original 1939 version of
Love Affair, from Leo McCarey, joins the collection. Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer take the lead roles in this classic tearjerker. On the disc, as well as a 4K restoration, are new interviews, two radio adaptations of the same material, and two short films from the 1920s, both directed by McCarey.
