Curb Your Enthusiasm has come to an end after twenty four years, writer and star Larry David has confirmed.
Of all the sitcoms in the history of television, few, if any, have come anywhere near the level of cringe inducing awkwardness seen in Larry David’s long running sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Playing a version of himself, David, forever deadpan and defiant, manages to break just about every social convention there is as he attempts to go about his life as a successful television writer. Starring alongside David were Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman and J.B. Smoove.
Curb is also notable for its wide array of memorable guest turns, which have included Mel Brooks, Martin Scorsese, Ben Stiller, Christian Slater, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael J. Fox, Ricky Gervais, Lin-Manuel Miranda, F. Murray Abraham and David Schwimmer.
There was also a Seinfeld reunion season, which saw Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards reunite to work on a reboot of the classic sitcom.
The show, which began in 2000, has earned a slew of awards over the years, including 51 Emmy nominations with two wins, and five Golden Globe nominations, with a win for Best Television Series in 2003, and five nominations for the Writer’s Guild Of America Award, winning once in 2006.
David has now confirmed that it’s upcoming twelfth season will be the last.
Speaking about his decision to end the show, David said “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this “Larry David” persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. The twelfth and final series of Curb Your Enthusiasm will begin broadcasting on HBO from the 4th February. In the UK, the show airs on Sky.
