Barbie scribe and director Noah Baumbach is planning his next movie and George Clooney and Adam Sandler are in talks to star.
Noah Baumbach is going back to Netflix for his next feature film. Baumbach’s last four films as a director have been with the streaming giant; The Meyerowitz Stories, Marriage Story and his latest, White Noise, starring Adam Driver.
Variety reports that George Clooney and Adam Sandler are in talks to join Baumbach’s new film. Plot details and premise are still being kept under wraps, but considering Baumbach’s filmography, he could be up to anything and we say that with the utmost respect and admiration for the man.
Baumbach has previously worked with Sandler on The Meyerowitz Stories, but it will be the director’s first time working with George Clooney. Clooney is currently busy launching his latest directorial effort, The Boys In The Boat, which is scheduled to hit UK screens in January.
There are still no details on when the film might move into production, but Variety reports that the script was written in collaboration with actress Emily Mortimer. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing alongside Baumbach. Netflix chief Scott Stuber did let it slip recently that the film would be a “funny and emotional coming-of-age story about adults.”
Baumbach recently collaborated with his wife Greta Gerwig on the script for Barbie, which turned out to be a huge success. Barbie is currently the year’s highest grossing film with a box office takings of $1.4bn. Baumbach was originally hesitant to take on the job of writing Barbie with Gerwig, confessing at a recent screening that he didn’t want to do it at all.
“I thought it was a terrible idea and Greta signed me up for it,” Baumbach confessed in front of a live audience, as reported by Variety. It all seems to have worked out rather well as Barbie not only made a load of cash at the box office, it was also critically acclaimed and one of the frontrunners of this year’s awards season.
