Rian Johnson’s Poker Face season 2 keeps building its starry cast with new additions Cynthia Erivo, Margo Martindale, and BJ Novak.
The first season of Poker Face, created by Rian Johnson, felt like a breath of fresh air in the TV landscape in 2022. Starring Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale, a woman with an almost supernatural ability to tell when someone is lying, the show adopted a mystery-of-the-week approach and featured a huge cast of familiar supporting actors.
Poker Face was renewed for a second series in early 2023 and, as confirmed by Johnson in an Instagram story in July, production is now well underway. Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes and Kumail Nanjiani are among the guest stars set to appear in the new season.
Variety has now reported that more famous people have joined season 2. Cynthia Erivo, Margo Martindale, and BJ Novak will all star in the series, although their roles are being kept under wraps. It’s a particularly busy year for Erivo who will star as Elphaba in John M. Chu’s Wicked, which is hitting cinemas this November.
Tony Tost is acting as the showrunner for Poker Face season 2, while Johnson will direct at least some episodes. Last season saw filmmakers like Lucky McKee and Janicza Bravo also direct an episode. Lyonne also directed one of the episodes in season 1 and set to direct another in season 2, as per Johnson’s Instagram story.
Without spoiling too much of the ending to season 1, season 2 will undoubtedly find Charlie on the run as she messed with the wrong people at the end of the season. Without a doubt, Charlie will come across more grisly murders on her travels that she’s compelled to solve.
As always, more on Poker Face season 2 as we hear it.
