GLOW star Alison Brie is set to suit up as Skeletorās diabolical sidekick in the planned Masters Of The Universe adaptation, set for release in 2026.
Itās taken forever for the Masters Of The Universe live action film to come together, with planned takes being developed then abandoned over and over again. The project has been in development at Sony, Warner Bros and Netflix and has pulled more writers and filmmakers than we can list into what seemed like a black hole, with nobody managing to figure out how to make the project work.
Then Amazon got ahold of the rights and a Masters Of The Universe film finally seems to be on the verge of happening. Casting has already been revealed, with the announcement that Red, White & Royal Blue’s Nicholas Galitzine will play He-Man. Camila Mendes will play his friend and the fearsome warrior, Teela, though reports today are stating that Mendes has had to drop out of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot due to a clash with this project. Travis Knight, director of the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and the wonderful stop-motion movie, Kubo And The Two Strings, knows a thing or two about spinning stories about āthe heroās journeyā and will be directing.
Now it has been announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Alison Brie will be playing Evil-Lyn, the diabolical sorceress with the least subtle name in the Masters Of The Universe series. And thatās saying something when you have a character called āRam-Man.ā Evil-Lyn is the evil Skeletor’s second-in-command and was played by Meg Foster in the 1987 live-action movie. More recently, Lena Headey voiced the role in Kevin Smith’s animated series for Netflix.
Brie certainly feels like good casting here. Sheās great in GLOW, Netflixās pro-wrestling drama as she plays a heel wrestler, a theatrical and showy villain when performing, but with plenty more going on beneath the villainous veneer of her in-ring persona. As for whatās next, MOTU fans will be waiting now for that all-important Skeletor casting news. The right name there will really ramp up expectations. When we do hear who will be playing the big bad in Masters Of The Universe, weāll let you know right here.
