Director and VFX veteran Tim Miller hasn’t made a film since 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, and weirdly, we were only wondering what he was up to the other day. As it turns out, Miller’s been quietly making a sci-fi movie with Keanu Reeves.

Maybe everyone knew this but us.

Over on The Hollywood Reporter, there’s the story that Callie Cooke, last seen as a hapless member of Brad Pitt’s, er, pit crew in F1: Da Movie, has a leading role in the project Miller is currently working on with Reeves.

It’s said to be a sci-fi film, and potentially a fairly big one, given Reeves’ involvement and the backing of Warner Bros, which of course is soon to be swallowed up by Paramount.

Speaking of swallowed up, the currently untitled project is said to be a time loop thriller that involves sharks. Per THR’s intelligence, Reeves will play a smuggler who’s in the middle of the Caribbean Sea when his life starts to go a bit Groundhog Day. Before long, he’s “surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries and thirsty sharks alike.”

Written by Ian Shorr, the film was initially called Shiver, but that title has since been dropped. Those who’ve read the script describe it as a mix of Edge Of Tomorrow (another time loop thriller) and The Shallows, which also contained sharks.

It’s said that Cooke will co-star as a scientist, while actors Nicholas Duvernay, Steven Waddington, Abraham Popoola, Bobby Holland Hanton and Anastasia Safonov will also play various miscreants, wrong-uns and ne’er-do-wells also lost at sea.

Filming is about to begin in a water tank located in the Dominican Republic, with the release set for the 13th August 2027.

It’s a decade since Tim Miller landed a crowd-pleasing hit with his ribald comic book adaptation, Deadpool. Maybe he’ll find success with his time-looping sharks. Frankly, it sounds amazing.

More on the project – including a title, assuming Warner Bros doesn’t stick with Untitled Tim Miller/Keanu Reeves Film – as we get it.
