Dear Evan Hansen movie set for autumn release

Dear Evan Hansen is heading to the big screen (hopefully) this September, Universal has revealed – more details here.

There are a couple of big screen takes on major musicals due to head out way this year.

Steven Spielberg’s interpretation of West Side Story was supposed to be released last Christmas but will now be with us at the end of the year. In The Heights – the screen take on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical – is now due this summer. We’re awaiting a fresh release date for the completed Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

And then there’s Universal Pictures’ movie of the award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen.

It’s being directed by Wonder helmer Stephen Chbosky, and the movie stars Ben Platt in the lead role. A US release date has now been announced for the film too, with the movie set to arrive on September 24th. We’re assuming that a similar release date will be set in the UK. Obviously all of this is up in the air, given present circumstances. But fingers crossed.

One musical there’s no sign of a start date for is Universal’s long-delayed film of the Broadway and West End hit Wicked (although it does have a new director).

When we hear more on any of these, we’ll let you know…
