Norman Reedus returns as Sam in the gameplay trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

During last night’s State Of Play, one of the biggest surprises was the gameplay trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2. And blimey, what a trailer that is.

Firstly, the game is now called Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Secondly, it looks freaky as heck.

Take a look at 9-minute gameplay trailer for Death Stranding 2:

Is that a baby… in a body cavity? Well, that’s me sold on the game.

Death Stranding 2 was initially announced at the 2022 Game Awards, but it’s been a long road to get here. Kojima reportedly rewrote the entire game at one point after the pandemic.

The trailer finds Sam working for a mysterious civilian outfit called the Drawbridge and being shown around by Léa Seydoux’s Fragile. As Sam heads out into the world, he is joined by… a puppet? The thing is sitting on Seydoux’s shoulder and seems to be animated in stopmotion.

Troy Baker is also back, reprising his role as antagonist Higgs Monaghan and it seems like he is up to no good once again, seeking revenge against those who, er, killed him. Elle Fanning also stars in the game in an undisclosed role. Could she be playing an adult version of Lou from the first game? We won’t know for a while yet, but we love to speculate.

Here’s the official synopsis for Death Stranding 2: “Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.”

Death Stranding, like Until Dawn, is also getting the film treatment soon. A24 are currently developing a film adaptation of the game together with Kojima Productions, as we revealed in December 2023
