Gru, and the popular yellow minions, are back in Despicable Me 4, and here’s the trailer for the film.

The Minions might just be the most iconic animated creations of recent years. Since the release of Despicable Me in 2010, the excitable, anarchic creatures have embedded themselves in popular culture. So far, there have been three films in the main series, and two phenomenally successful solo outings – 2015’s Minions and 2022’s Minions: The Rise Of Gru. The former is in the top ten highest grossing animated films of all time.

That brings us to the fourth installment of the Despicable Me franchise, that’s arriving this summer. The synopsis reads as follows:

Following the 2022 summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1B worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their girls —Margo, Edith and Agnes — welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who’s intent on tormenting his dad. They face a new nemesis with Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, as they’re forced to go on the run.

The voice cast also includes returning stars Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Madison Polan, with new characters voiced by Joey King, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman and Steve Coogan. Pierre Coffin voices the Minions.

Franchise stalwart Chris Renaud co-directs with Patrick Delage, from a screenplay by School Of Rock scribe Mike White and returning writer Ken Daurio.

Mike White also wrote Illumination’s current film, Migration, which is released in UK cinemas on Friday. The synopsis reads as follows:

The Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids—teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen—the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to go on a family trip to tropical Jamaica. As the Mallards make their way South for the winter, their well-laid plans quickly go awry. The experience will inspire them to expand their horizons, open themselves up to new friends and accomplish more than they ever thought possible, while teaching them more about each other—and themselves—than they ever imagined.

Despicable Me 4 will be released in UK cinemas on 12th July.
