Prime Video is working on a God Of War TV adaptation and showrunner Ronald D. Moore has just revealed there’ll be two seasons to look forward to.

Video game adaptations are all the rage at the moment, and with HBO’s The Last Of Us having proven to be a huge hit, other streaming services are keen on recreating that level of success.

Perhaps the biggest one of these is Amazon’s God Of War, which has been in the works for quite a while now. Things didn’t look too great last October when the show reportedly scrapped its creative team for a complete overhaul of the series.

New showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who has previously worked on several Star Trek TV shows as well as the Battlestar Galactica reboot and For All Mankind, recently chatted with Katee Sackhoff on her podcast The Sackhoff Show (here via Screen Rant) about the show’s progression – and it’s good news for fans of multiple seasons of things…

ā€œRight now I’m working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they have asked me to come in. I’m literally in the writers room and working on that,” Moore confirmed, adding he’s not much of a gamer and hasn’t played the titular games.

God Of War is a huge franchise for PlayStation, and it’s not entirely clear which of the games the series will adapt. The franchise got a new boost with the release of God Of War in 2018 and its 2022 sequel God Of War: Ragnarök. Both games have the kind of stories that could adapt well to TV, and look very cinematic to boot.

It’s also unclear if God Of War will take The Last Of Us route and adapt one game per season. The Last Of Us season 2 is just weeks away from release, and will tackle The Last Of Us Part II – a game as controversial as it is beloved. Creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have promised the second game will take more than one season to bring to the small screen.

God Of War isn’t Prime Video’s first video game adaptation. Their Fallout series was released in 2024 to strong reviews – including ours! – and solid viewership numbers, and season 2 is currently in production. More news on God Of War (and everything else) as we hear it.
