Supernatural fans rejoice! Jared Padakecki and Misha Collins are set to reunite with Jensen Ackles in The Boys season 5.
Supernatural, Eric Kripke’s monster-of-the-week series about two demon hunting brothers, was one of the biggest shows of the noughties. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles starred as Sam and Dean Winchester and were later joined by Misha Collins’ angel Castiel in their adventures. When the show came to an end in 2020, fans were devastated and Kripke went on to forcus on his acclaimed superhero show The Boys.
The Boys is currently in production for its fifth and final season. To the delight of many Supernatural fans, news has emerged that Padalecki and Collins have been cast in the new season. Combine that with the earlier casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Sam and Dean’s dad in Supernatural, we’ve got quite the reunion to look forward to. Jim Beaver and Rob Benedict, another two Supernatural alumni, have also appeared in The Boys and Padalecki’s appearance has been rumoured for a while now.
Jensen, Padalecki and Collins shared a video on Instagram confirming their reunion. Ackles stars off the video by telling Padalecki the trio have “work to do, again”. I can promise you, every Supernatural fan on the planet got goosebumps after that, this writer included.
The Boys premiered in 2019 and it was an immediate hit for Prime Video. The series follows two groups; The Seven, a Justice League-esque gaggle of superheroes led by the vicious Homelander (Anthony Starr), and the titular The Boys, a group of agents looking to bring down super-conglomerate Vought International. The show’s unique take on superheroes has proved popular with viewers and critics alike, and it was announced in 2024 that the fifth season would conclude the series, (several spin-offs notwithstanding.
Season 5 will likely see The Boys’ leader, Butcher (Karl Urban), and Homelander’s bloody war come to an explosive end. Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie on the show, recently shared a particularly gloopy selfie on Instagram with “WORK’S BEEN GOING GREAT, YOU GUYS!” as the caption. Safe to say that The Boys season 5 will be just as blood-soaked as we’ve come to expect the series to be.
There’s still no news on when we might actually see The Boys season 5, but previous reports indicate that the new season will be shooting until well into mid-2025. We’ll bring you more on it as the news reaches the Film Stories news desk.
