David Tennant is set to make his Doctor Who return in a new scene that will air during the BBC Children in Need broadcast.
Doctor Who fans are truly feasting this year. Not only are we gearing up to the release of a brand new season, with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and a series of specials airing later this month, fans can get their Doctor Who on as early as this week.
The yearly BBC Children In Need appeal show is taking place on Friday 17 November. It promises to be a night of comedy, music and special guests, all for a great cause. We reported earlier this month that showrunner Russell T Davies is bringing David Tennant back for an early appearance in a brand new, exclusive scene. We now know that Tennant’s Doctor will go up against a new, mysterious character, played by Taskmaster and Live At The Apollo star Mawaan Rizwan.
The press release also teases that the Doctor “uncovers an age-old mystery involving one of his oldest foes…” We have no idea who they could be referring to, but I guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.
“Doctor Who has a fine tradition of supporting BBC Children in Need, and I hope that fans and new viewers alike will be able to watch, enjoy, and contribute to this wonderful cause,” Davies said in a statement.
“Every year that I was on Doctor Who we did something for BBC Children in Need, so it only feels right to be doing something this year. Children in Need is a national tradition, it’s certainly a BBC tradition and Doctor Who is part of that. I’m so glad we’re able to give Children in Need viewers this little extra treat,” said Tennant.
Rizwan was excited to join the world of Doctor Who. “It was such an unbelievable joy to work with my Whoniverse idols David Tennant and Russell T Davies. My inner child was losing his mind on set.”
Viewers will also get a special look at how the scene was created as Doctor Who: Unleashed will also feature in the broadcast.
Tune in at 7pm on Friday 17th November to catch the new scene during BBC Children In Need broadcast. Tennant’s Doctor Who specials are set to begin on 25th November. We don’t have a specific release date for Ncuti Gatwa’s new episodes, but they are promised to air during the “festive period.” As always, we’ll keep you updated when we know more.
