Ncuti Gatwa’s full debut episode of Doctor Who is Christmas special The Church On Ruby Road, here’s the trailer.

After the incredible events of The Giggle – you can read our spoiler filled review here – Ncuti Gatwa is now officially The Doctor.

His first full episode will be Christmas Special The Church On Ruby Road, which marks Doctor Who’s return to a primetime Christmas Day slot for the first time since 2017.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Long ago on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins and perhaps the secret of her birth…

The episode is written by showrunner Russell T Davies and directed by Mark Tonderai. It will also feature the debut of Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday. Other cast members include Davina McCall playing herself, Mary Malone as Trudy, Anita Dobson as Mrs Flood and Hemi Yeroham as Abdul.

In other Doctor Who related news, it has recently been announced that The Celestial Toymaker is being animated in both black and white and colour for a home media release. Ncuti Gatwa will be a guest on The Graham Norton Show on Friday 15th December, and a documentary, imagine… Russell T Davies: The Doctor and Me will air on BBC One on Monday 18th December at 22:40.

The 60th anniversary specials will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on the 18th December, handily just in time to make it a stocking filler. The three disc set comes with a plethora of special features including documentaries and audio commentaries. You can pre order here.

Series 14, or Series 1 if you’re going by the new Whoniverse numbering, is then expected to air in the spring. So far, the only concrete detail we have is that one episode is co-written by Loki director Kate Herron and comedian and improviser Briony Redman.

As ever, we’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
