It’s been talked about on and off for years, but Vince Vaughn is now signed up for a sequel to 2004’s Dodgeball.
Rumoured ever since the first film proved to be a breakout comedy hit, it’s now been revealed that we’re finally getting a sequel to Dodgeball.
The first film was directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who more recently has been making the expensive Netflix action flick Red Notice. He also penned the original, but this time around it looks as though Jordan VanDina has landed the job of writing the screenplay. Whether Thurber can be tempted to return to direct remains to be seen, given that Netflix wants a pair of Red Notice sequels.
One confirmed returnee at least is Vince Vaughn, who will be in front of the camera as well as producing the film. 20th Century Studios, now owned by Disney of course, is behind the film.
Whether the likes of Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor or Justin Long return is unclear. Don’t put any money on Lance Armstrong making another cameo, but hopefully there’s cash in the coffers to entice Gary Cole.
It’s been 19 years so far since the original though, and so there are lots of questions as to the shape of the sequel. But it’s had a few false starts over the years, yet now it appears as though Dodgeball 2 might just be a thing. More as we hear it.
