Plans remain afoot for Edge Of Tomorrow 2, but the schedules of all concerned seem to be getting in the way.
2014’s Edge Of Tomorrow remains something of a high watermark for blockbuster science fiction over the last ten years. Notwithstanding the muddle over its name – it’s known as Live Die Repeat on disc – the movie’s continued word of mouth success has built on its solid box office.
What’s more, there’s long been talk of a sequel. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have both confirmed they’d like to return, along with director Doug Liman. But the problem has been in large part finding a space to make the movie. Blunt’s schedule has been packed, Liman is juggling two movies yet to be released and set to make a further feature in space with Tom Cruise.
Cruise himself is in the midst of filming the next two Mission: Impossible films and has Top Gun: Maverick to promote.
Still, Blunt has been asked about the status of the film whilst promoting her latest feature – Wild Mountain Thyme – and she admits that the script “is really promising and really, really cool”.
The problem? “I just don’t know when everything’s going to sort of align, you know what I mean… between all of our schedules, it would just have to be the right time”.
She teases to The Hollywood Reporter that “there is something in the works, for sure, that’s a great idea. A great idea”.
No telling what that idea is, of course, but we’re keen to see a continuation of this particular saga. More as we hear it.
