ITVX will stream comedy shows live from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August, and here are the details.

The Edinburgh Fringe is one of the greatest arts festivals in the world. Each year in August, artists, comedians, writers, performers, musicians and everybody inbetween descend on the Royal Mile to sell their shows to passing punters.

Television series like Phoebe Waller Bridgeā€™s Fleabag and Richard Gaddā€™s Baby Reindeer, which is quickly becoming one of the most popular shows on Netflix, began life as Edinburgh Fringe shows. In 2004, director Annie Griffin made the micro budget dark comedy Festival. Set and filmed at the Fringe, it starred Stephen Mangan as an arrogant comedian.

Streaming platform ITVX has commissioned four hour-long episodes of ITVX Presents: Edinburgh Fringe Live, which will broadcast live from the arts festival. Each show will focus on specially curated compilation shows in which performers will present highlights from their festival shows.

ITV said ā€œThe magic, chaos and hilarity of the Edinburgh Fringe will be streamed directly to viewers on ITVX this summer via four specials. This will be the real Edinburgh experience in a venue at the heart of the Fringe with new line-ups each night featuring some of the most exciting comics and breakthrough stars of 2024. Audiences will be immersed into the anarchic and irreverent atmosphere as if they were in the rooms themselves ā€“ all streamed live on ITVX, and available to catch-up for 30 days afterwardsā€.

The episodes are being produced by NextUp Comedy,  a dedicated comedy streaming subscription service. They film specials for various comedians from established names to rising stars and circuit veterans, including Maisie Adam, Roisin and Chiara and Edward Aczel. They also stream live comedy shows from a number of venues around the country.
