The Fast and Furious franchise may be known for excess, but reports now suggest that the cost of Fast X surpasses all previous instalments.
To date, the
Fast and Furious franchise has grossed over $6.6 billion. That kind of money is why weāre now talking about the tenth entry in the franchise,
Fast X.
A new report suggests that the budget for the film has ballooned though, to a staggering ā sit down ā $340 million. To put that in perspective, thatās more expensive than the likes of
Avengers: Infinity War ($325 million) and
Pirates Of The Carribean: At Worldās End ($300 million). It would make
Fast X the fourth most expensive film ever made, after
Avengers: Endgame and
Avengers: Age Of Ultron ($356 million and $365 million, respectively). The top spot currently belongs to
Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides with a whopping $379 million.
According to
The Wrap, āthe surging price tag, which factors in tax-incentive offsets, can be blamed on numerous budget-busting elements: increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise’s ensemble cast, general increases in production costs caused by global inflation and charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocolsā.
While plot details are thin on the ground, we do know that series regulars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Chris āLudacrisā Bridges will be joined by returning stars Jason Statham, Charlie Theron, Nathalie Emmanuel, John Cena, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Cardi B, Anna Sawai and Helen Mirren.
Newcomers to the cast include Jason Momoa as Dante, the main antagonist, Brie Larson,
Jack Reacher star Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior and Rita Moreno.
Louis Leterrier is directing this one, after franchise veteran Justin Lin exited the production, though Lin retains a credit as co-screenwriter with Dan Mazeau.
Fast X will be released in the UK on 19th May 2023, weāll keep you updated as we hear more.
