Maria is the new comedy from Simon Amstell, and he’s attracted quite a cast to the film: more details here.

Felicity Jones has signed up to a new film project, and she’s set to co-star with Jonathan Bailey (who’s been seen most recently in Bridgerton, that posh mucky programme on Netflix). They’ve both been recruited to feature in the comedy Maria, which is a film that’s come from the pen of Simon Amstell.

Amstell will be directing this one as well, his third film behind the camera (Benjamin being the most recent). Maria tells the story of a young woman who is struggling with life: her father’s apparent disinterest, her boyfriend, and her age. Enter stage left a new stepbrother, courtesy of her father’s new wife.

Also in the ensemble for the film is the always-welcome Jason Isaacs, and the plan is to shoot the movie in the autumn. Locations will take in the UK and the US.

Pre-sales are set to get underway on Maria at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. In theory, we’re looking at a release date in 2023.

More as we hear it.
