A year and a half on from the project’s announcement, the valet-centric Ferris Bueller spin-off flick now has a director, but its script still isn’t finalised, according to reports.
It was all the way back in August of 2022 that we heard that the iconic 1986 comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, would be getting a spin-off movie. Apparently, the film is set to ‘follow the two valets who took Cameron’s father’s cherry red Ferrari on a joy ride through Chicago and had their own adventure on that fateful day back in 1986.’ If you watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off then you know exactly what we’re talking about.
If you’ve never watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, then why are you here reading this when you could be watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time?
The project is being called Sam And Victor’s Day Off (we suppose the title Ferrari was already snagged) but since that initial announcement, we’ve heard very little about the film. With last year being a rather turbulent one, we were beginning to wonder if this project had fallen by the wayside – but no, apparently it’s still alive and now has a director.
According to Hollywood scooper, Jeff Sneider, David Katzenberg has boarded the project as director. Katzenberg will be making his feature debut with the film, following lots of TV work, including episodes of US shows such as Ballers,” Riverdale and The Goldbergs.
Although Ferris Bueller himself memorably told us that ‘life moves pretty fast sometimes’, don’t expect a deluge of information to quickly follow in the wake of this announcement. Apparently, the project is looking for new writers so it sounds like things are still very much in the early stages of development. It does sound like Paramount are looking to give the film a theatrical release, however, so at least we have that nugget of good news. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
