Bradley Cooper’s second film as director sees him playing Leonard Bernstein – and a first image from the production has landed.
Bradley Cooper’s penchant for musicals shows no signs of abating. Almost unrecognisable underneath prosthetics that will almost certainly be in the running come awards season, Cooper’s second directorial outing after A Star Is Born will see him play musical icon Leonard Bernstein in Maestro.
It’s difficult to know exactly what the plot will concern, especially considering the fact that Bernstein’s life would be enough to fill several Broadway shows in and of itself. Being blacklisted from Hollywood to being Oscar nominated for his score to On The Waterfront and composing the iconic score to West Side Story.
The spine of this film, though, is said to be the rocky marriage between Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. Rounding out the cast are Jeremy Strong, Matt Bomer and Maya Hawke.
As well as directing, Cooper co-wrote the script for this one with Spotlight scribe Josh Singer. There’s considerable power behind the scenes, producing the film are Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Todd Phillips, amongst others.
The film is set to debut on Netflix next year.
