Here’s the first trailer for Disney’s upcoming live action Cruella De Vil movie, starring Emma Stone.
We have our first official look at Emma Stone as Cruella De Vil in the upcoming live action 101 Dalmations prequel, that will serve as an origin tale of sorts for the memorable Disney villain.
The film itself is coming in May and will be directed Craig Gillespie, who helmed the subversive biopic I, Tonya, which saw Margot Robbie playing the American figure skating star Tonya Harding. Gillespie clearly has form in taking a character who the world has written off as ‘a rotten apple’ and telling their tale in a fashion which is not only entertaining, but causes us to think twice about our preconceptions of them.
How much of the dark comedy and subversiveness that made I, Tonya such a captivating film will make its way into Cruella, a Disney family film, very much remains to be seen, but we remain hopeful.
Other cast members include Emma Thompson, Mark Strong and Paul Walter Hauser.
The character of De Vil originally appeared in the 1961 animated Disney classic, 101 Dalmations, but was also memorably portrayed in live action by Glenn Close in 1996 and 2000 in 101 Dalmations and its sequel, 102 Dalmations.
How Stone’s performance measures up will be one of the interesting points for conversation as we move closer to the film’s May release. Until then, check out the trailer below.

Pixar has long been at the forefront of American mainstream animation. The studio ushered in the era of CG animation with its debut feature Toy Story, intelligently explored darker themes of loss in Up, and helped [...]
Actor Warwick Davis has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from Willow, which was deleted from Disney+ last year. And he’s not very happy about it either.
Disney+ started deleting its own content in 2023. A lot of great films and TV shows were axed and aren’t available anywhere else, which feels thoroughly unfair for the people involved [...]
