Matthew Lillard has given an update on when we might expect cameras to start rolling for Five Nights At Freddyās 2, and it’s sooner rather than later.
Five Nights At Freddy’s turned out to be a huge success for Blumhouse last year, quickly becoming the horror house’s highest grossing film. Based on a series of video games, the film grossed an impressive $297m at the global box office. It didn’t take long for a sequel to be greenlit and now, one of the film’s stars has given an update on the shooting schedule.
Matthew Lillard, who played a career counsellor in Emma Tammi’s hit horror film, told the Youtube channel JayBee & Milly (spotted by GamesRadar) that Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 is set to begin filming this October. The film, which at one point was speculated to be released in 2024, will grace our cinema screens on 5th December, 2025.
Lillard revealed the shooting date when answering a question about whether he’d be game to have a cameo in Netflix’s upcoming Scooby-Doo spin-off.
āWe are journeymen on a career pathā¦ sure, I would love toā¦ in some way, honor the original show, to give fans something fun. Iām available. Iām doing a TV show right now, Iām doing FNAF in October, but Iām available. If anyone wants me, they can find me if they need me,” Lillard said.

Plot details on the sequel are being kept tightly under wraps, but Blumhouse did confirm that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop would return to once again bring the terrifying animatronic creatures to life. The second video game in the series follows a new security guard, Jeremy Fitzgerald, who is tasked with looking after the animatronic characters of Freddy Fazbearās Pizzeria.
Josh Hutcherson is expected to return for the sequel and, clearly, Lillard will be back, but whether his scenes will be simply flashbacks or he’ll play a bigger part of the story, we simply don’t know. Thereās no official word on whether Tammi will return to direct or if Blumhouse is seeking new blood behind the camera.
