Nobody Wants This is Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy series, and it follows pretty standard rom-com tropes: girl meets boy, girl falls for the boy, boy is a rabbi while the girl is an agnostic with a podcast. You know, the usual.
“Is there a world where this works?” Adam Brody’s Noah asks Joanne, played by Kristen Bell. Will love conquer all, including religion? If you ask Noah’s mother, probably not.

Granted, it’s a pretty unique take on a genre that has felt a little tiresome for so long, but is definitely on the rise again.
Surprisingly, the series is loosely based on creator Erin Foster’s own experiences of meeting her husband, as she detailed in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.
“This show is based on the only good decision I ever made: falling for a nice Jewish boy,” Foster told Tudum. “But I realised that being happy is way harder than being miserable – there’s nothing to complain about. So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard.”
“This show really represents how I view love now, which is so different than how I viewed it before,” she said. “Being in a really beautiful, healthy, fun relationship, it made me soften some of my cynicism.”

An agnostic podcast host and an unconventional rabbi on the rebound walk into a party. When they walk out — together — the unlikely pair, Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody), can tell there is something between them. But also potentially between them, with their differing outlooks on life, all of the modern obstacles to love, and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families — including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) and his brother Sasha (Timothy Simons).
All ten episodes of Nobody Wants This will stream on Netflix from 26th September.
