Have we seen the last of the One Wish Willows? Maybe not!
Obsession, Curry Barker’s thoroughly disturbing new horror film, is currently scaring audiences in cinemas worldwide. Barker has already signed on to reboot the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise after directing his next feature Anything But Ghosts, but it seems he already has some other ideas for Obsession’s evil, wish-fulfilling twigs.
Talking to Total Film after a screening (here via Bloody Disgusting), Barker wasn’t against the idea of continuing the story.
“I obviously have a couple more things that I’m excited about next, but I do see Obsession 2, maybe. Or even, what really is exciting to me, is maybe an anthology. Like a one-hour episode… each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails,” the director said.
An anthology TV show then?
“Maybe I’ll direct the pilot with the same DP, and then you could invite other filmmakers to give their spin at it,” Barker wondered. “That would be really cool.”
Obsession follows Bear (Michael Johnston) who buys a One Wish Willow and wishes for his friend and co-worker Nikki (Inde Navarrette) to love him and since this is a horror film, things get very ugly.
He also admitted that his film failed to acknowledge that the world would probably have gone to hell if you could buy these One Wish Willows for the fair price of $6.99, calling it “a plothole”.
“It really doesn’t make any sense at all,” he laughs after saying he doesn’t like to think about it too much.
“The world is pretty normal from what we see. So it doesn’t really make sense. Here’s my take. Every time someone makes a wish, they enter into an alternate reality, where their wish comes true. So you’re not experiencing everybody’s wish at the same time. And that’s why… but then it doesn’t make sense, because the money falls from the ceiling.”
Despite such an obvious plot hole, Obsession is hugely impressive and one of the best horror films of 2026. It defeated all expectations during its opening weekend, grossing almost $25m globally.
