The tense, single location thriller The Guilty will arrive next month on Netflix, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role. Netflix continues to outlay cash on a range of interesting and diverse projects, and hereā€™s one worth keeping an eye on. Around a year ago now, the streaming service announced it had acquired the rights to The Guilty, a single-location thriller that takes place over the course of a morning. Netflix reportedly shelled out $30m for the film. Jake Gyllenhaal will star and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua will helm. The setup? ā€˜Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal), a cop demoted to the desk position awaiting a disciplinary hearing the next day, receives a terrifying phone call from a kidnapped woman. He must battle his internal demons in order to save her.ā€™ Fuqua and Gyllenhaal have collaborated before on the excellent Southpaw and the film was written by True Detective scribe Nic Pizolatto. The Guilty is based on a Danish drama directed by Gustav Moller, that premiered in 2018 at Sundance. The remake will arrive on Netflix on October 1st, although the US are getting a limited theatrical run from September 24th but itā€™s unconfirmed as yet whether that will be happening in the UK. In the meantime, you can catch the trailer below. ā€” Thank you for visiting! If youā€™d like to support our attempts to make a non-clickbaity movie website: Follow Film Stories on Twitter here, and on Facebook here.
