As rumours about Christopher Nolan’s next project circulate, Tom Holland is reportedly set to join what is said to be a vampire film.

Surely somebody somewhere is just having fun with us at this point. Another week brings us another ‘leak’ regarding Christopher Nolan’s next project. And given the the British filmmaker’s follow-up to the all-conquering Oppenheimer is so highly-anticipated films, it’s beginning to feel as though the excitement’s being stoked for the amusement of somebody, somewhere.

Regardless of whether we’re all being trolled or not, it’s been fun to follow the increasingly wild rumours regarding Nolan’s secretive next project. First it was rumoured to be a horror. Then it was a said to be a sci-fi espionage movie. Then it was reportedly a helicopter cop flick, with the specifics added to that report lending some credence to the story. Let’s not forget that before this ceaseless wave of rumours began crashing down on us, Nolan was repeatedly connected to the James Bond series.

Today’s wild rumour, though? A vampire movie. A period vampire movie to be precise, taking place in the 1920s. It may sound a little like Sinners, the Ryan Coogler vampire flick that is heading our way with Michael B Jordan in the lead, but just because the setup is similar doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Gizmodo has made the claim, with the outlet suggesting that it comes from a reliable source. Also in the report is the news that Tom Holland will be joining the project, starring opposite Matt Damon.

Holland is expected to work around his busy Marvel schedule which has him shooting two Avengers films, with the particulars of a fourth Spider-Man production currently being hashed out as well. Should this story prove to be true, it means we could be waiting a very long time to see Holland return to the Uncharted series. Still, at least that gives his co-star, Mark Wahlberg plenty of time to grow his moustache in for the next one.

As for Nolan’s potential vampire flick, it’s an intriguing idea. While they could of course play as different nationalities, we wonder if an American actor and a British one in the lead roles could connect it to World War I, or shortly after? The sheer scale of human death and suffering in the Great War would make a fascinating backdrop for a vampire film, and now we’re thinking about the themes of class or exploitation that Nolan’s film could explore, we can’t stop thinking about the idea.

When we do hear the next rumour about the filmmaker’s project for Universal (probably soon), we’ll let you know.
