For the first time since Rogue One, Gareth Edwards is making his first new film in six years ā and quite a cast is coming together.
Gareth Edwards hasnāt directed a feature film since 2016ās Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Whilst the years since havenāt really been kind to any director attempting to make a film in A Galaxy Far, Far Away, in retrospect, Rogue One stands as one of the most successful attempts to modernise the Star Wars brand, although creative differences would have made it a trying experience for the director. Itās certainly pleasing to see such a talented filmmaker working on another project, this time, the near future science-fiction story, True Love, for New Regency.
The cast for the film is now fully rounded out with the news that the talented Allison Janney, star of I, Tonya and a stealer of scenes in almost anything she appears in, has joined the ensemble. Already announced are John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Danny McBride and Benedict Wong.
The film is currently in pre-production and plot details remain secret, so itās likely that weāll be waiting a while longer before we hear anything more about this one.
With Edwardsā penchant for stunning visual effects, it might be 2023 before we see anything of the film. The director has certainly taken his time to choose the right project and weāre excited to see where this one goes, especially now the talented Janney has joined the ensemble. Weāll let you know more as we hear it.
