Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively star in Paul Feig’s incoming sequel Another Simple Favor – and here’s the first trailer for the film.
A Simple Favour – look! We’ve put the letter ‘u’ back in its title! – was one of 2018’s most fun films, offering up plenty of mystery, laughs, twists and turns and remains a Paul Feig favourite. The filmmaker and his stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, crafted a really fun time at the cinema, with the film making $97m worldwide from a $20m budget.
Despite doing well out of the first film, Lionsgate isn’t involved in its follow-up, with Amazon instead stepping in to back the sequel.
Sadly, that means that the follow-up, Another Simple Favor – Favour – won’t be seeing the inside of a cinema when it releases in May but we’re glad the film exists all the same. This time around, the action once again ‘follows Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.’ Taking a sequel to a beautiful and exotic location is a tried and tested formula that we’re sure Feig will have fun with, given that one or two gags in the trailer already have a meta flavour.
Then there’s the developing relationship between the two lead characters to look forward to as well. The first film featured Kendrick’s homely vlogger (Kendrick) who investigated the disappearance of her elegant (and enigmatic) new best friend (Lively). Things between the pair ended on an interesting note so we’re looking forward to seeing how they get on when the film reunites them.
We spoke to Feig about A Simple Favour on the Film Stories podcast in 2018, and discussed the sequel when Feig was our guest at a live podcast recording in 2022. Now it’s almost here and along with Nicolas Cage’s The Surfer, we now have two films to look forward to in May, both revealing trailers today that don’t show too much which is an almighty blessing.
You can expect Another Simple Favor to arrive on May 1st on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.
