The 1995 hit Species is getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media release in the UK this June. More details here.
Just recently on this very site, we were digging into the behind the scenes story of 1995’s hit Species. Starring Natasha Henstridge Sir Ben Kingsley and Michael Madsen – and it was Henstridge’s feature debut – the film also posted some superb creature designs from the legendary H R Giger. Roger Donaldson directed, and MGM had both a hit movie, and a chance to spit out a sequel or two.
The original film though has now been selected for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release, with 88 Films picking up the UK rights to the movie. It’s going to be releasing a deluxe dual format release – that thus includes a Blu-ray as well – on 23rd June 2025. It’s unclear as of yet whether there’s going to be much in the way of extra features on the release, but hopefully we’ll get more information there in due course.
The disc is available for preorder now, and you can find more information and pick a copy up right here.
As is traditional, not least because it’s really hard sometimes typing these stories out, as much as we love them, here’s the synopsis for the film. We’ll leave you with it…
With a creature designed by H. R. Giger and cast which includes Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, and Natasha Henstridge in her feature debut, Species is the perfect mix of shocking sci-fi with the added bonus of a very sexy, and seductive alien. Sil (Henstridge) is creation of alien DNA which has been spliced with that of a human. She grows and develops incredibly quickly into a creature capable of killing all in her path with only one thing on her mind, to successfully reproduce and continue her extermination of the whole human race. Visually stunning with a knowing nod to the classic B-movies of the 50s, this big budget fantasy manages to balance gruesome effects with cinemas most beautiful monster.
