A sequel to Godzilla Vs Kong is definitely happening, with filming heading to Australia later this year on the next movie.
Its place in modern film history is assured by being the first movie to cross $100m at the US box office in the pandemic era. Furthermore, in the case of Godzilla Vs Kong, it also proved that a movie playing on a streaming service could still get people out to multiplexes. It remains one of Warner Bros’ few 2021 successes, in a year that proved tricky for the studio.
Understandably then, it’s pressing ahead with a direct sequel to the movie. Godzilla Vs Kong 2 is set to head to Australia later in the year where filming will begin on the new movie.
Adam Wingard, who directed the previous movie, is returning to helm this one. He’s also lured Dan Stevens – who he directed in The Guest – to join the case.
Warner Bros has given the movie a release date of March 14th 2024.
