The PlayStation movie adaptation Gran Turismo is officially off the mark, but it will be a race to complete the film before it releases next October.

The production of Gran Turismo continues to be an interesting one: amid a host of planned video game adaptations, Sony’s PlayStation Productions arm announced in May that it would be adapting the popular racing simulator into a film.

District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp was revealed as the director and a staggeringly-ambitious release date of October 2023 was set. Given that we’re in November now and there’s probably an extensive amount of post-production work to consider, it’s a good job that the project has now officially roared off the starting line.

Archie Madekwe, who had small parts in Midsommar and Voyagers, who will take the lead role in a wish fulfilment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player who ‘won a series of Nissan competitions before becoming an actual professional race car driver. Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell, Orlando Bloom and David Harbour will also feature too.

We suspect second or third unit work may have been underway on this production for a bit of time already, but nonetheless, it’s still good to hear that they are officially up and running. We’ll continue to bring you more on this one as we hear it.
