Guy Pearce and Diane Kruger join Vincent Cassel in what sounds like a typically strange Cronenberg project, set to shoot in May.

We’ve known for a while that La Haine star Vincent Cassel will be re-teaming with director David Cronenberg again this year on The Shrouds, in which Cassel will play “Karsh, an innovative businessman, and grieving widower, who builds a device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud.”

The Shrouds certainly sounds very much like a Cronenberg project and it will be great to see the two talented creatives reunite, even if it isn’t in the Eastern Promises sequel we’ve been waiting forever for. Now we have some more casting news to whet the appetite with Deadline reporting that Diane Kruger has been added to the cast, replacing Léa Seydoux. Also, Guy Pearce will be joining the project too.

It looks like the film’s production has been delayed somewhat due to the casting change, with production moving from a planned March start, into May. Originally slated as a Netflix series, the streaming platform backed out so Cronenberg reconfigured the project as a film. We’ll bring you more on The Shrouds as we hear it.
