The familiar Home Alone format returns for the sixth instalment of the long-running series – and the first trailer has landed.

The sixth instalment of the Home Alone franchise will be making its way to Disney+ this Christmas, with JoJo Rabbit’s Archie Yates as a young boy, left at home by his parents, who has to then defend his home against a pair of interlopers.

This marks the third or fourth reimagining’ of the franchise. A direct sequel followed the smash success of 1990’s Home Alone, but then the third film pressed the big red reboot button before the fourth film returned to the original characters, but with a different cast. The fifth film was another reboot, as is the upcoming sixth movie.

Yates was particularly good in JoJo Rabbit, so we’ll see how the latest iteration of Home Alone is received. Now Disney have  streaming platform, a yearly Home Alone film might become an annual Christmas tradition for the platform. Here’s the official synopsis below:

Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realise that there really is no place like home sweet home.
