Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is speeding to video on demand, ahead of the release of Chapter 2.
Kevin Costner’s long-mooted passionate project, Horizon: An American Saga is set to cover four films, each of which has a planned running time pushing the three hour mark. The first film arrived in cinemas a week or two back to middle reviews, but a degree of frustration that there’s not much of the story that actually gets going. Instead, a lot of setting up for your money.
Here’s our own review of the film. Costner directing a western is inject it into my veins stuff for me, so I had a good time with Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, yet its box office is weak so far. It’s grossed just over $20m on its cinema run, some way short of its negative cost.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is already completed and locked, and heading into cinemas in the middle of August. Ahead of that, Warner Bros – in the US thus far, but presumably in the UK too, has scheduled the film for video on demand services to rent this very month.
The film is set to arrive on video on demand on 16th July in the US, so that’s just under a week away. It gives the Horizon saga month or so before the release of the next film in cinemas, to hopefully build up more of an audience. Certainly the promo at the end of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 suggests a whole host of ramping up ahead, and in truth, my ticket to it has been long sold.
Costner is planning to shoot Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3 over the coming months, before turning his attention to the final part, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 4, once he’s through with that. As always, we’ll keep you posted as and when we hear more.
