Sky has unleashed the first teaser trailer for its upcoming “coming-of-rage” series, Sweetpea, starring Ella Purnell. Take a look:
Fresh off the success of Prime Video’s Fallout, Ella Purnell will next appear in Sky’s new series, which the broadcaster has labelled a “coming-of-rage” story.
Sweetpea is based on CJ Skuse’s novel of the same name and stars Purnell as Rhiannon, a shy and quiet woman whoās pushed over the edge, with murderous consequences.
Take a look at the first Sweetpea trailer below.
Now that’s how you do a proper teaser trailer. Running for a mere 26 seconds, it only hints at the series’ conflict. Purnell’s Rhiannon is seen neglected and ignored by the people around her and clearly, something happens to make her lose control as we see her covered in blood.
Here’s the full synopsis:
Rhiannon Lewis doesn’t make much of an impression ā people walk past her in the street without a second glance. She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really, really sick. Then everything in her life turns upside down. Rhiannon is pushed over the edge and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?
Kirstie Swain has adapted the series from its source material while Ella Jones is directing. Purnell, who is also on board as an executive producer, is excited for audiences to see the series.
“I truly cannot wait for the world to meet Sweetpea!ā Purnell said in a statement. āI’ve loved exploring this incredibly complex character, as well as working alongside our dynamic cast and powerhouses Ella Jones, Kirstie Swain, and Patrick Walters. This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far. At its core, the series is about a woman finally finding her voice, told through a uniquely dark and comedic lens. I hope audiences have as much fun going on Rhiannon Lewis’ wild, coming-of-rage journey as we did bringing it to life.”
Nicôle Lecky, Jon Pointing, Calam Lynch, Leah Harvey, Jeremy Swift and Dustin Demri-Burns also star in the series.
Sky hasn’t given Sweetpea a release date yet, but the series will air on Sky in October. More on Sweetpea as we hear it.
