Horizon: An American Saga is Kevin Costner’s fourth film as director, and the first teaser trailer has landed.

Open Range is one of the most underrated Westerns out there. I wanted to start with that, because while it is loved by many who have seen it, it flies under the radar compared to other contemporary Westerns. Talk to Film Stories founder Simon Brew, and he’ll spend several hours banging on about the film, even while everyone else has quietly made their excuses and left.

We now have a synopsis for Kevin Costner’s next directorial outing, Horizon: An American Saga, which has been split into two films so far. Plans remain afoot for a further two, that have been held up by the ongoing strikes.

Here’s that synopsis…

In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Kevin Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes – all of them attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

The huge ensemble cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bowe.

Costner directed the film and he also co-wrote the script with Jon Baird.

Part One of Horizon: An American Saga  us set to hit cinemas on the 28th June 2024, with Part Two following just over a month later on the 16th August. As we saw back in March, both films are being shot in Utah.
