Kevin Costner’s Horizon parts two and three are set to shoot in Utah this year, it’s been announced: more details on the filming here.

Here I sit in the middle of the West Midlands in the UK, getting press information from the Utah press office. Isn’t the internet great? The matter in hand is Kevin Costner’s Horizon saga of movies, that the Oscar-winner is directing and co-writing. The first of the planned four films has already been shot and is in post-production. Now we learn that Costner is heading to Greater Zion in Utah for the shoot of Horizon 2 and Horizon 3.

The press announcement reveals that conversations have been taking place for years over the films, and the idea of bringing them to the region.

“The State of Utah, with its intrinsic beauty, is the perfect backdrop for the story of Horizon and can be said to be its own character in our story,” said Costner. “I am looking forward to bringing the production of this next instalment of Horizon to Washington County, and I want to thank Joyce Kelly who was tireless in her efforts to bring the west back to Utah and her beloved county and the Commission for their support in making that possible”.

Filming on parts two and three of the Horizon saga takes place this year, with the second deep in pre-production. It’s Costner’s first film as director since 2003’s Open Range (pictured).

We’ve no idea of release dates yet, but as and when we hear more, so will you…
